Playoffs Update

We have received an update from our inside source and future Butler Dek Hockey GM, Justin Pott.  We do indeed have a playoff game this coming Sunday.  It is at 1:00PM VS. Young Gunz.  Hope to see you all there.

Season Review

Sometimes you eat the dek, and sometimes - well, the dek eats you.  We played the part of a 10 course meal for opposing teams in our first only session playing in the big, bad, B league.  To sound cliche, there were ups and downs - mostly downs.  Lots, and lots of downs. 

We had limited attendance.  We scored very little.  We gave up very much.  We played on Sundays.  We never had a single beer after our games. 

These and many other factors contributed to the lousy session that was Spring 2010. 

Was it our name change?  Possibly.  Anyone interested in changing our uniforms to something like this:

My new name would be "Mead Maiden." 

We'll regroup.  In the spirit of European football, we've been relegated.  Next session we're back where we belong in the "C"rappy League.  There are like 320 teams that play in the C league, hopefully we avoid playing any kids, moms, or nannys. 

Ok, this next bit of information is wild.  We have been tracking our goals this session for our "Goals for Charity" event.  After looking around a bit I decided that we would donate our charity to the Mario Lemieux Foundation, click the link for some additional information.  If you're a Pens fan you already know a lot about the foundation and what they stand for.  They are huge in the area, and a huge advocate for cancer research and a giant contributer to Austin's Playroom (named after Mario's son) to aid kids with autism.  I also figured that since we at least act like a hockey team (we don't always look like one), we may as well contribute our donation toward something hockey related. 

All of that said (and here is the wild part), we finished the session with 22 goals.  Donating $3/goal - our donation amount totals $66!  Sick isn't it?  So I'll simply tack that amount on to our fees for next session for those of us that were a part of the team for this session, and we'll continue the event next session as well if it's cool with all of you dudes.  Hopefully we'll be closer to an $87 contribution next session.   

A quick recap of last game:  we got badly outplayed by a bunch of scrubs.  We only had 4 regular players including Shoup in goal.  Luckily Dougy played and we picked up a couple dek rats.  The one dek rat Mark scored two goals, one assisted by Doug, the other by myself.  Mark also picked up the assist on our third goal that was scored by me.

Still no word on if the last place team in the league qualifies for the playoffs.  Let me know if you find out or watch for an update on the site.

"B"itch You Fo-Real?!

For a few minutes during our hockey game this past weekend - we actually looked, felt, and acted like a team.  There was something that had not been seen in any other game this session.  Some intangible feeling surrounding the men. 

Granted we played hard, but could have played harder.  We played well, but could have played better.  For the first time in 8 weeks we were in a competetive game late into the third period.  The other team didn't have any subs - but stop making excuses for them, we have been in the same situation this session and we still lost.   

We got some solid goaltending from Dougy.  Another highlight reel goal by Trav.  And some solid D-zone play against a group of obviously more skilled players. 

Until we actually win a game I am not doing a full recap - I'm on strike.  Suck it.  Go Pens.

"B"ecause We Suck

Not going to do much of a recap of this Sunday's game.  We're terrible.  Our north/south style of play does not translate well into the B league.  We're trying to take everything right at these teams and they're making us look silly for doing so.  This group of little kids that we played on Sunday has always given us headaches, but we were normally at least IN the game - not losers by 10+ goals. 

If someone can think of something positive that we can take from the game please let me know (except for Trav's leaping goal, that was sick). 

We should change our team name and logo:

Hahahahahaha....nah, we're not that bad yet.

"B"eautiful Mess

We'll blame the coming in of Trout season and happily married couples on this loss.  Barely able to field a legal team, UCHC dropped another stinker. 

Brewster, Scuderi, Nordo, and Tim were the only members in attendence.  Brewster's brother Doug was going to fill in for Shoup in goal, but a game-time decision was made to bring in the back-up (the dude with the long hair who is always there, Lambeau...Lambo...whatever his name is) which allowed Doug to play a non-goalie position. 

The Predators struck early and often - scoring 4 goals in the first period.  UCHC answered with one of their own when Nordo made a sickening between the legs foot pass to a steaking Tim, who beat the goalie on the low stick side.

This team was full of familiar homos foes.  Ugly Ref was playing defense.  Taylor Hossa was acting like he invented hockey.  That one kid that wears a face-shielded helmet was stick-handling all over the place - even when no one was defending him.  That Ben dude with the huge ass was checking me all game, once hitting me hard enough on a delayed off-sides call that it knocked my skull cap and beanie off of my head.  Another time, on another delayed off-sides call where the ball was up for grabs and although I cheated and closed my hand over the ball, he jarred it loose for an incomplete pass.  That dude sucks at hockey, but he's pretty good at throwing his large ass around - legal or not - gay or not.  And finally our good pal Rick, the owner, was doing his best impression of a 50-year old guy trying to play hockey with a bunch of 20 and 30 year olds. 

With only one sub -  actually playing the game was merely delaying the inevitable "L" in the wins/losses column - but I thought we played pretty well considering. 

Tim and Doug hooked up mid-way through the second to bring the score to 7-2, and then Chad fed Nordo a nice dish late in the third to bring our total to 3.  The Predators ended with 9, so on paper the game does not seem close, but the paper doesn't always tell the full story. 

Benny played a good game both up top and in the back, and Lambow (?) made some decent saves.  We had a quite a few opportunities to score but could not quite find the back of the net, quite.  Tim had many opportunities to find Nordo but effed up time and again.

Next week we play NOBODY @ 1:00, which if i'm remembering correctly is a team of little bitches.  They are currently 1-2.  We are 0-4.

GAME REMINDER

Reminder of the game this week at 3:00pm.  Are we going to have enough dudes to sport a team? 

I know for sure that Curt, Trav, Goldie, Shoup, and I believe Nordo are out this week. 

Anyone going fishing and not going to be able to make it?  Have your grandma's birthday to attend?  Laser eye surgery? 

Please let us know BEFORE Sunday if you will not be there.  So far it's Brewster, Brewster's Bro, and myself playing - we would like to know if it's worth our time to show up.  Thanks dudes.

"B" Stands for BAD

Losing to underage deuschbags stings.  Losing to "dek rats" who claim to be huge hockey fans, but are hanging out at the dek instead of watching the Pen's game also stings.  Going 0-4 to start our first season in the B league when we had such high hopes stings like a staff infection, on your penis.  But just think about how great that first win will feel if it ever when it comes. 

We lost to the Butler High School JV team.  They play and practice together 6 times a week and have just completed their season.  They're in shape, in form, and inbred.  Who cares.  We are a bunch of older dudes that just want to have a slightly competetive good time playing hockey, drink beer, and laugh at dudes who wear basketball shorts with pockets.  Like Nordo said, "there needs to be a D league." 

I don't mind sticking with the B league to see if we improve, but I also don't mind moving back to C league next session.  We'll re-evaluate our situation in a few weeks.

Oh, and on my high-sticking goal, it was a make-up call.  I WAS tripped going across the middle before I took the initial shot.  So there.

April 25th Picnic?

If any of you dudes pay attention to the nice little game schedule on the right side of the page, you may have noticed that I have a team picnic scheduled for April 25th @ 3:00pm after our 1:00pm game.

Anyone interested in doing this? Just get together for some grilling, a few beers, a few laughs, and hopefully to celebrate a win?

The possibility of a Pens afternoon playoff game that day is very good as well.

Butler Dek Hockey Blogosphere??

Some dude left a comment about about "another Butler Dek Hockey Blog," so I checked it out.  See it here.  I also have it linked at the top of the page if you ever need to go there again. 

This dude has stats for like all of the teams - including some individual player names and stats.  He also has the standings listed and us (listed as "Chocolate") at the very bottom of the B league standings.

Good show boys! 

Apparently you can buy shit from them too, and they'll deliver it to the dek.  What in the hell?  Do you think they deliver beer?

Oh well, good for this dude for putting something like that together.  If that had been around before we may not even need our site so check it out.

Or Not to "B"

So another rainy Sunday, and another lopsided loss.  UCHC fought hard (fighting hangovers moreso than opponents) but in the end fell to the Shenanigans 9-1. 

Fehl had the lone goal - finishing a pass from behind the end line while in close on the goaltender. 

It appears that the promotion into the B league coupled with the shakeup of our roster is turing out to be a bad combination. 

Hopefully we can right the ship and string some wins together.  Hopefully mother nature decides to give us a dry dek as well.  Stats updated. 

We've Been Promoted

We are playing in B League this session boys. Rick admitted to making a mistake and overlooking our proposed changes, but to make the change now would result in a debacle so I told him to keep things how they are.

Big John, we barely knew ye. Sorry man, hopefully we can drop back down into C next session so you can play.

He is also going to take the necessary steps to change our team name on the schedules.

Hopefully this does not throw a wrench into anyone else's plans. I know for sure I will be missing one game because of Sunday School - but that should be all.

Our first game is this coming Sunday (see the new "on site" schedule on the right side of this page, here -->). Hope to see everyone there. Remember to bring me a check or cash in the amount of $32 for team fees. Also bring a few singles for ref fees.

WE SHALL BE CALLED...UNCOMFORTABLE CHOCOLATE

After much ado, we finally have a team color AND a team name. Eric Reges submitted the final and deciding vote last evening. We will be known as UNCOMFORTABLE CHOCOLATE HOCKEY CLUB, and we will wear white uniforms.

The following is derived from a soccer team in the English Blue Square Division, or, their 4th division. It is Mansfield Town Football Club. I came across it some time ago, and because I thought it was so awesome I used the idea for hockey, and it took little editing on my part to change their original design. It has absolutely nothing to do with hockey or uncomfortable chocolate, but I think it's sweet.

Please dudes, if you have something in mind for a logo pass it along.

Also, let me know what name you would like on the back of your jersey, as well as the number. Again, be creative - your real name is probably boring.

TEAM NAME AND COLOR UPDATE: ALMOST THERE

Ok dudes. So we are waiting on one more vote to determine the team name. It’s a tight race. We do have a majority vote for the team color though, which will be WHITE (sorry nordo, not white cut-off dress shirts).

As soon as we determine the name of our team we can develop a logo and then get names and numbers and have shirts made.

The session is scheduled to start the first week of march, but according to Rick it’s all going to depend on the snow situation of the dek. I was up there last night and there are two feet of snow (with more tonight) on the dek.

We are playing in B league this session. I figured we could use a challenge, and I’m tired of playing against high-schoolers.

I also wanted to throw this out there to see who might be interested. Rick doesn’t really have any help shoveling the dek. Would you guys want to get a crew together and go up and give him a hand? I didn’t mention it to him but only now thought about it. We could get together on Saturday or Sunday and give him an hour or two. Let me know.
